Sounds like the barrel is the same length as a German K98k. I don't know if the Yugoslavs made new barrels in the K98k length, or just scrubbed all markings from a serviceable German made barrel. They did shorten many K98k stocks to allow use of a bayonet with their new made, shorter barrels (same as M24/47 and M48).

The rifle designated K98 is a Polish rifle (see photo); the German rifle you meant is the K98k. The Chinese rifle designated Chiang Kai Shek is a copy of the German Standard Modell rifle.
