IMHO, just trim A5 bbl to 21" and put a mag extension on it. Those long delicate hand guards do nothing, except crack pretty good. Yes,,ive owned a couple, and repaired 4"+ cracks on both. The rodies didnt use an extension, they used a longer replacement mag tube and handguard. The barrel js different,, recoil lug was further towards muzzle.

I believe it was studied that one of the reasons the original flash hider banana peeled was simply because of harmonics and, the combination of the sharply machined points of the finish lines of the vent like Def90 mentioned.You can completely replace the lower with a straight Metric one but I prefer the Inch grip and selector (you are required to modify the lower or the selector to use it on a Metric lower). I have one of the very early (C.1994) Thumbhole stocked FALs that Century was selling back then.What I think I know for sure is it's on a L1A1 lower with an inch bolt and bolt carrier and the upper is a SAC import from the 90's with the import mark in the magwell. The serial number on the barrel matches the receiver and there is a small x looking mark at the bottom of the barrel under the handguards.
