This is an experiment by the way guys. I tried it and it works pretty well, make sure to to use shock weapons most of the time. You can use other elements but shock will be the most effective. For raid bosses I used the "bee-hawk" and her "The Better Half" skill and it synergizes really good.

Deathtrap's damage is bugged on PC, so it will fall off pretty hard in the later game (UVHM) unless you use mods to fix that. On console, Deathtrap's damage output can be pretty good (though you still want to be able to deal enough damage yourself).
