Ruger makes some of the best factory barrels available on U.S. rifles today. The bores are quite smooth and they rarely foul. My American .308 is typical. I shot it over 150 times without cleaning right out of the box, and at the end of that string it was capable of hitting gongs at 1000 yards.

I havnt shot a Savage axis, only a Savage 110, but the opening of the action is much easier on the savage. id get the ruger predator in 6.5 because it has a threaded heavy-ish contour barrel, so you can put a muzzle brake on it and it will overheat less. seems to be the go-to budget long range option right now.
