Blood crystals can be farmed by rock creatures that pop up from under the ground. If you have the resource spell you will see a red glow from the ground. There is one I know for sure by the last Red dragon ( 1 skull) before you get to the green dragons in the undead city as I call it. Harvest with a pick and you will get them.
