Also, a poor connection on the battery ground can cause things like that as well. Like Roy said check the knob first, but by now the tractor should have atleast had a hydraulic filter change. If I remember right judging from the numbering system change, a 990 is at least a couple years old and probably should have had it changed regardless of the hours. Just my 2 cents. Jun 9, 2012 / JD 990 Hydraulics #4.The JD790 has the valves mounted on the rockshaft case under the seat. THe 990 rockshaft case is a different configuration. There is a valve on the top under the seat, and another valve on the left side of the case. JD offers a kit for each valve. P/N AM876765 fits the side valve; P/N CH13559 fits the valve on the top.

"I bought my John Deere 990 new in 2006. It is a no frills, gear drive tractor. It has been reliable, economical and fun to operate. In 8 years my only problem was the battery which out gassed and corroded the terminals as did a lot of the John Deere CUTS. I installed an optima battery which solved the problem.Disconnect the rod end of the cylinder from the drag-link (tractor engine off) and restart tractor. Turn the wheel left and right. See if the rod end moves back and forth the complete distance. If it does and it obviously won't under load; I'd guess that you've got internal leaking within the cylinder.

Jun 20, 2009 · 2000 Jd 990. I was pulling a 9ft drag with my 990 in 4 wheel drive an noticed some noise from the front end. Four wheel drive stopped working now. This tracter has 175 hours on it. Never been on pavement an is clean. I dropped the oil in the front end only to find it is clean with no metal shavings. Pulled the drive shaft an no broken coupler.
